Ideas can come from anywhere, and this tool helps those "ah-ha" moments to happen.
In Form + Communication by Walter Diethelm, the author showcases Igildo G. Biesele's teaching method in which students would create a 4x4 grid and use any combination of lines and geometric shapes to create abstract or symmetrical compositions. This practice was intended to demonstrate movement, depth, and positive/negative relationships in a non-representational way. I was drawn to the simplicity of the system, and the complexity of the results.
I want the viewer to share this experience – to have their own moments of discovery and unique interpretations of their compositions. I hope that this will help them see something differently, to make a new connection and maybe even help remove a creative block.
